The Foundation
Fondazione Hillary Merkus Recordati is a platform dedicated to supporting contemporary visual arts, safeguarding young talents, and contributing to the evolution of creativity.
Hillary Merkus Recordati (1951–2020)
Hillary Merkus Recordati was a distinguished collector and philanthropist. Born in Eindhoven to a Dutch father and Indian mother, she was raised between Singapore and India, embracing the richness of diverse cultures.
She pursued her studies in the United Kingdom before settling in Milan in 1972, where she began her career in fashion. In her second marriage, she wed Engineer Giovanni Recordati, dedicating her life to family, her passions, and her values.
She cultivated a deep appreciation for art and supported significant philanthropic projects with a social focus. Her profound interest in art led her to become a respected collector of modern and contemporary artworks.
She guided her son, Andy, into the art world, nurturing him into a modern philanthropist committed to talent, creativity, and giving back to the less fortunate. Hillary exemplified an evolved woman with high ethical principles and generosity, which she upheld and shared with pride and passion.
My mother always placed people at the center of every project, understanding their visions and values, respecting their desires and passions.
With pride and complete love, I commit, as she always did, to pursuing the same objectives with the same strength and determination.”
